Effexor XR and Alcohol Rages - PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi,
I have a friend who is on Effexor XR and was drinking.
This friend while drunk became very confrontational,
very contrary to his personality. He picked fights with
multiple people and became extremely violent to his
friends, he had to be held down until the cops were
able to arrive. He was completely out of control.
Very unlike his personality. I was wondering if
this is a side effect of drinking on Effexor XR or if
my friend is not able to take Effexor XR? I'm extremely
concerned and welcome any advice on this subject.
