DO THE MUNCHIES STAY?!

Posted by bee on September 13, 2000, at 18:12:56

I have just recently (2 weeks ago) started to add doxepin to my elavil as I wanted to get away from the weight gain, etc... I knew that this drug was also a TCA and so ran the risk of having the same side effects as elavil but thought I'd give it a try. I went from 80 mg. elavil to 60 mg. elavil and 25 mg. doxepin. I stayed with this for 2 weeks with a dip downward about 6 days after decreasing the elavil. I also noticed an increase in insomnia so went to the doctor yesterday. Now I am currently on 60 mg. elavil and 35 mg. doxepin, raising it slowly 10 mg.

I had noticed when I decreased the elavil that I lost some water retention and a bit of weight (2 lbs. yay!!) I did not have such strong cravings for sweets, etc...

I increased the doxepin yesterday and noticed last night and today that I am hungry again. This is with eating a normal supper, breakfast, etc... Obviously increasing the doxepin has started the cravings.

Will this craving decrease over time or get stronger if I go up in this med?? If it stays, then I have a couple of more choices (trimipramine?? or ludiomil??) I hope I can find something that works for me. The meds work on my depression but these side effects really bother me (10 years worth).

So, if anyone has any insight or help, please reply.]

Thanks.
