Ambien nightmare

> I'm on the healing side of my second depressive episode (two month'ish), I discontinued Zoloft last Wednesday, and last night was the first night I slept without either Librium or Ambien. Last night was filled with a series of nightmares, one so bad that when my husband awakened me, I really wasn't sure if any of the nightmare had actually happened and needed clarification from him. Anyone else have these types of experiences? Vivid dreams aren't unusual and neither is the occassional nightmare, but a full night of nightmares is unusual for me. In fact, lack of dreams is a sure-fire symptom of depression in me.

After my first depressive episode, I stayed on Zoloft for a year and made the worst decisions in my life. I'm not terribly worried about a relapse since I was depression-free for six years between the two episodes, and I responded within three days of starting Zoloft for the second depressive episode.

Ambien works like a charm for a quick sleep but I noticed it doing crazy things to my mood state. Do you suppose stopping it caused the nightmares?
