Effexor and Panic Disorder

I just started taking effexor xr today for Panic Disorder. I am a little nervous (imagine that) about the side effects and withdrawl. I believe that I have this due to a low seratonin level. Has anyone else taken effexor for this? And if so, how long should I remain on it?
