In reply to depression and Paroxetine, posted by sue leach on November 22, 2000, at 9:29:58
> Does anybody know anything about Paroxetine and how effective it may be for treating clinical depression. How long does it take to kick in? Is it right for most patients? If a patient has taken a different drug in the past is it better to continue with the old drug? What actual effects does it have on brain chemistry? Please help.

The first time I took paxil it worked wonders for me and then it stopped working for depression. I started back on it at a later date-years later-it did not work for depression but did work for ocd. I stopped taking it for depression and started on a few different meds. that would either not work for ocd or not work for depression. None of them would work for both--so I got on Effexor xr for depression and paxil for the ocd and risperdal for some other components of depression and ptsd. Everyone is different in how these meds. work for them. If somebody goes off something they may want to try it again if it did some good and then wait and see. If it quits working there are plenty of other meds. to try. I went through so many meds. that stopped working or gave me awful side effects that I thought none of them worked. But some have. That's why it's important to learn survival skills, too, in case the meds. quit working. Maybe make a list of them and post them on the frig.!!
