I am not sure why it has not been approved in the U.S. It probably has something to do with the drug company not trying hard enough to get it released (ie. the potential market share is not worth the money needed to prove efficacy and safety in clinical trials).

A few years ago, Roche was engaged in clinical trials of moclobemide in the United States for the indication of social phobia, and not depression. The project was abandoned.
