Elizabeth - Exercise releases the body's natural opiates, the endorphins. This is much safer than taking mu-receptor agonists (eg. morphine, codeine, heroin, etc), as they are reinforcing (ie mess with the body's reward system, predisposing you to addiction) and, in most cases, lead to some form of tolerance, requiring you to take larger doses for the same "pleasureable" or "energizing" effect.
Sorry, good health does not come in a pill. You have to help it along with a balance diet and regular exercise.
