Remeron + Excessive Sweating + Appetite

Posted by Henry on January 10, 2001, at 2:05:29

I've been on Remeron for about 3 years now. Before that I was on Zoloft. Has anyone experienced heavy sweating while on Remeron? I know Zoloft definitely made me sweat a lot and my psychiatrist did tell me it was a side effect. However, I'm now on Remeron at 45mg each night and I still have this irritating sweating problem. Besides Remeron, I'm also taking immovane (for insomnia), imipramine (anti-depressant as well)and lexotan (for better sleep). What a cocktail right? Well, I don't really know which one is the culprit that makes sweat the most because my entire shirt would go wet in minutes after I have a "sweat anxiety attack". The sweat literally pours out with brisk exertion.

My psychiatrist has just started me on propranolol 10mg 3 times a day for the sweaty problem. It seems slightly better but I don't know whether this is psychological. What makes things worse is that I live in a hot temperate country, where it's perpetually hot all year round.

I have been diagnosed to have bipolar depression with unbelievable mood swings; especially during times of the year when traumatic incidents in the past have happened. Remeron doesn't seem to work for me at times and I have asked my doc whether it's time to change my medication. Sad to say but I think I may have to take medication for the rest of my life because I've started them since 1995 and they seem to be increasing all the time.

The sedative effects of Remeron on me have totally gone now but like many others, I can eat a cow almost shortly after taking the medicine. My weight however has been controlled after I disciplined myself to consume less-calorie food and fruits instead of carbo-rich diets.

I started taking Remeron at 15mg, then 30mg and now 45mg. The appetite doesn't seem to differ as much but I think it's less when the dosage increases. Overall, I think it's moderately effective in helping my depression. I'm also on epilium for managing my moodswings. I always thought.....I would be dead long ago if I had not been able to pay for those these hefty medication bills.

I was pretty depressed during the recent festive year end period which happens to many of us and my doc persuaded me not to step down on my medication even though I kept complaining about my sweaty problem. I am still maintaining at 45mg per day and now monitoring the problem with propranolol.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I have a problem with constipation too due to all these psychotic pills? I have to take 'Ducolax' to maintain regularity.......what a pain right? *sigh*

Finally, I'd like to warn you guys against taking Xanax. I've been like a guinea pig of all psycho drugs and the worst of all is Xanax. I had the worst relapse while I was taking Xanax which is very addictive. I had to take more and more to achieve the calming effect. It finally caused me to literally 'go out of my mind' with such aggressive behaviour that I was so frightened after the 'relapse'. I went into cold turkey without Xanax for 2-3 months and believe me.....it was HELL. I had been taking very high doses of Xanax 6-700 mg a day during my worst times. When I stopped Xanax, my body shook terribly and my doc had to inject Valium into me. So, please do not try Xanax......it's not worth it!!

I'm getting too long winded....coz I have experienced so much with psychotic pills.. Any of you who share the same problems as me please enlighten me. Thanks and take care.
