I was given Effexor by my doctor 1 year ago for pain and fibromyalgia. After about 1 month I quit because I really didn't see any difference in the pain, though it did help with fatigue and some minor depression and mood swings. I really didn't want to be medicated. I had no withdrawl at this time. About 6 months later, my doctor told me again that I should have given the Effexor more time. He said, "It would cure me!" I should have known better, but I couldn't resist. I was on 75 mg of effexor ex for several months. Again I noticed no improvement except for fatigue and depression. I decided to go off cold turkey. After all, 75mg wasn't much and my doctor told me there would be no withdrawl. After about 3 days I felt like I had a terrible flu with no fever. I went to the doctor(a PA) and she was puzzled until I told her I had gone of effexor cold turkey. She put me back on it and gave me two weeks to go off slowly, weaning me to 37.5 and then nothing. I have been off the effexor for about 4 or 5 days now and the symptoms have returned. I was so glad to read all the comments on this sight. I feel so much better. Here are my complaints:
Dizziness
Brain Fog
Vertigo
Nausea
Unexplained crying
FatigueHere is what I am doing- Taking Pepto and drinking peppermint tea. It helps a little. I will let you know how long it takes to withdraw. I will be calling my doctor to tell him know how serious the side effects of withdrawl are!!! Never again will I go on drugs to cure this pain! I am going to try with diet and exercise.
