My depression was pretty severe. About 3 years ago I had 3 psych hospitalizations and ended up in the ICU twice from suicide attempts. I met my current pdoc during one hospital stay and we have worked very hard to get where I am today.
I reacted to Zyprexa very well and quickly. It cleared my thinking and got me off of the obsession with death and suicide. It was the first thing that ever did that. I still take Nortriptyline as my main AD but augment with Zyprexa and now Mirapex. The latter two target different Dopamine receptors and so far don't appear to conflict with one another. John L or Scott could tell you better how they work but right now I'm just glad that they are working for me.
I stumbled across Mirapex while we were trying to get rid of my anhedonia problems. I wasn't as depressed in the past but there really was no joy in things I once enjoyed. I tried a bunch of the so-called stimulating meds - Wellbutrin, Adderall, Ritalin and Provigil (similar to the popular Anafrinil). I think it was here at PB that I was reading about Selegiline and mentioned it to my doctor. We delayed it a month and I did as much research as I could and found good information on Mirapex.
It's been two months now and I feel like I have many of my emotions back. I don;t feel like I'm just going through the montions anymore. Evidently my depression has more to do with dopamine than seratonin.
For some more info on Mirapex try these:

I printed them and brought them in to my doctor and he agreed to try it.
Good Luck,
Chris
