Bad reaction to Equasym (Ritalin alternative)

Posted by Leonardo on February 27, 2001, at 5:34:17

Does anyone know anthing about the effectiveness of Equasym compared to Ritalin? In the UK it is a Ritalin alternative, supposed to be the same methylphenidate hydrochloride, but packaged in different doses for convenience (5,10 or 20mg).

Recent experience suggests that they behave quite differently, the Equasym seems less effective for ADHD symptoms, and quite likely to induce restlessness and anxiety compared to Ritalin at the same dose.

The only explanation I can think of so far is that maybe the absorption characteristics are different - the Equasym pill is bigger than Ritalin at the same dose, and has a different composition of binders. I am beginning to think that taking Equasym on an empty stomach gives a bad reaction, whereas taking Ritalin on an empty stomach doesn't seem to make any difference. Any ideas?
