Bree, I don't think the risks are very high with sarfem (prozac)--if you feel that you are getting more depressed, just stop it. It leaves your body pretty quickly. But there are a lot of alternatives. One thing that works for a lot of women is progesterone vaginal suppositories that you use premenstrually. They worked for me when I was your age; now they work for me on sick feelings I have premenstrually, but not on my emotions. But for some, they are very good emotionally. You do need a prescription for them, and even more conservative mds are using them.
I think the worst thing is that you went to a doctor who didn't listen, who didn't explain to you why she was prescribed what she did, and basically dismissed you. I don't know if you were too shy to ask the questions you needed to, or if she was unwilling to listen. I think what you really need is a doctor you can relate to, that you feel comfortable asking questions, and disagreeing with if she is prescribing something you don't feel is right. Maybe you need to go back and set up a consultation with her specifically around pms, or change doctors. Do any of your friends really like their gyns? shelli
