I have been on anti-depressants for about 8 years. i've gone off them a number of times but always get depressed again. like you, SSRI's have worked much better for me (very unfortunate b.c. i too have sexual side effects on all of them). yes, i have a family history of depression (mother -- had severe depression including suicide attempts). I've also tried Wellbutrin (had a seziure; had to stop it), Nortiptyline (sp?) (didn't work)and Remeron (didn't work on depression). Meds that have worked are Zoloft and Celexa. I've also tried Effexor (didn't try it long enough -- wanted to switch to zoloft which i knew worked b.c. i was in a bad depression and needed immediate relief). BTW, is Effexor an SSRI?
Neurontin is new for me too -- also about 4 months. i take 1600 mg. i really like it! god, i would be so grateful if it was enough so i could stop taking celexa and get my good sex life back. i miss it so much. i have a great boyfriend but our sex life is a little one-sided now if you know what i mean. i feel i'm missing out on a vital part of life.
thanks a lot for sharing with me. it really helps! bissie
