Some recent posts made me think about the possibility of daily, fairly strenuous exercise, as an effective treatment for social phobia? Has anyone with fairly severe social phobia (speaking in front of large groups, one-on-one meetings with senior boss, etc)had significant remission of symptoms by sustituting something like strenuous daily jogging. When I have been in the best of shape in my life, I was never a daily jogger. Some friends of mine, however, got such a "high" from it, that they soon were entering marathons.
So, I continue to be concerned about med side effects and, in particular, those which may not always be immediately apparent to me, such as disinhibition, irritability, apathy, anger, etc. It makes me continue to wonder, "Is it me, is it the meds, or some combination of both."
By the way, I'm in no way suggesting that those with social phobia or other disorders should discontinue their medication. Nor am I implying that meds have not been saviors for those with social phobia. I was one of those saved. It's simply that, at this time, and just for me, it's worth evaluating the benefits of daily cardiovascular exercise.
Thanks.
