Has anyone had luck losing Effexor weight?

I have been off of Effexor for almost two months. I gained about 20 pounds while on it (and Zoloft before Effexor). I want to get it off badly! I excercise several times a week...but it doesn't seem to want to budge. Has anyone heard if SSRI'S slow metabolism? I continued to excercise religiously while on AD'S but STILL gained weight. How discouraging is that? How exactly do SSRI'S cause weight gain? Increasing the appetite? They must slow metabolism somehow, because I was gaining weight while working out in the gym 3-4 days a week. I am no longer on any medication. Any info regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
