Increase mg or change med??

Hey, I have been on effexor for over a year and for about 4 months its been incresingly ineffective. My doctor has increased by effexor from 180 to 255mg, i have ben doing that fro two weeks now and no change, should I consider different medication if so what??? need help, or chould I stick with it.
