Well, I just spent some time watching the presentation on anorexia and bulimia. I was particularly interested in the subject as I'm finding that for me, remeron is inducing a bulimic type response to food. I was trying very hard to maintain my weight on the remeron (5'4''--135). Recently I've been having an extremely difficult time controlling my caloric intake, and I'm starting to purge after binging. I've NEVER had this problem before, and unfortunately, the remeron is the only med that has properly treated my anxiety and depression adequately.
I think the presentation gave me a better understanding of why remeron has such a great effect on appetite and satiety (in terms of the roles trytophan and serotonin play in anorexia). Now I'm wondering if there is a way offset this response I'm having to the remeron. I've had to increase my dosage to maintain AD response, and with every increase the appetite problem seems to worsen.
Dr. Bob, you asked for input-- I really enjoyed the talk, it was my first experience of Grand Rounds Online.
