In addition to havind depression I also suffer frequent classical migraines (which the antidepressant medications alleviate somewhat). However, I discovered some years ago that the painkiller I was prescribed contained a mild synthetic narcotic called PROPOXYPHENE. I find that the propoxphene alleviates my depression/anxiety better than anything else I have ever taken (including pethidene, buprenorphine, morphine and codeine). I have NOT become tolerant to the analgesic or beneficial mood effects NOR have I developed any side-effects (e.g., constipation). I go for long periods - without withdrawal symptoms whatsoever - when my depression eases off. I'm NOT about to advocate the general use of opiods to treat mood disorders but I would like to know if anyone else has found propoxphene useful for depression WITHOUT getting euphoric or hooked on it? Is there perhaps a group of so-called atypical or treatment-resistant depressives like me who actually need tinkering with their opiod/endorphin system?
