As a Psychologist (with a postgraduate qualification in psychopharmacology), I'd really appreciate feed back concerning what you find most helpful and most harmful in your utilisation of psychological services. I know I've had some shocking experiences as a 'client' at the hands of other Psychologists but I have fortunately found a really good one now. How about you?

I've had really good results with someone who was recommended by one of her patients, that I knew. After 2 general sessions, we got into EMDR. She was very good at it, stopping the process at each event and discussing it, then allowed the process to continue. She is very good at going with what I say, not trying to re-interpret what I "really" mean. Our conversations have had more meaning and were much more results oriented, than any other person I've worked with. There is power in word of mouth referrals.....Most harmful is allowing "proffessionals" to tell us what they think we really mean, when we speak. Direct, open and honest communication from the patient is what is most important. Don't let Dr.'s ever tell you "you shouldn't think or feel that way", when you really do. That is what needs to be addressed, I DO THINK AND FEEL THIS WAY, HOW DO I CHANGE MY THINKING AND BEHAVIOR POSITIVELY? Or at least accept it's a part of my depression, PTSD, ect... Often knowing it's normal to have such feelings and behaviors as a result of the diagnosis, can be in itself relieving, and more managable to work towards correcting. It helps takes us out of that "I'm going crazy and what I feel isn't normal" self talk we can get into.
It's also important to remember it's our meeting, we set it up, and the agenda is ours. Have a plan on what you want to work on, discuss, get information on. Don't let Dr's lead you...
Just my input...
