Dear Cam - thank you ever so much for replying to post. I kinda expected you to say "don't be so lazy and go search in the archives!!) But you know how it is, you've just received the medication and so you're very curious and you want a answer quick... and I know *you* always answer quick! :) Also, It's far nicer to talk to someone "live" as it were than searching through old posts!

Your information is very useful. My doctor put me on Zopiclone to help me sleep at night as I am trying to give up alcohol. I was drinking a lot, especially at night, and after suddenly stopping alcohol I found myself lying awake in bed at night unable to sleep, only in dribs and drabs. Why did you call Zopiclone weird? I took three tablets the first night instead of the prescribed two, as I am usually quite resilient to hypnotic type drugs. I didn't notice feeling sleepy at all - I just fell completely unconscious head first in my bowl of cornflakes (I have a bowl of cereal just before I go to bed). My husband found me, and thought I had had a fit.

I was put on Paroxetine few years ago, I stayed on for six months or so. But eventually gave up, as I didn't notice feeling any differen. Do you reckon Parox is any better than this. Also, I hate the idea of putting on more weight. I was put on an absolutely massive dose of steroids some time back for several months, and I grew like an elephant with a face like a chipmunk. I'd never been able to completely shift this, so it worries me that Parox might have the safe effect.!

Lastly, can I just ask you just one more question? I heard somewhere that antidepressants only work if there is some sort of chemical imbalance in the brain? If so, does that mean if my problem is purely psychological, Parox may have no effect? Also, could you suggest any other drug apart from Zopiclone which would help relax me and help me sleep while I'm trying to withdraw from alchol addiction?

Thanks very much again for your reply - I really appreciate the tme you spent answering me.

Lisa
