I started gettin withdrawl-type symptoms after 10 months on Parnate (another MAOI). The symptoms (nausea, aggitation, "brain lightning") were exactly the same as the ones I would get if I missed a dose. My depression also relapsed. Increasing the dosage well past the recommended maximum did not help. I switched of of Parnate for a year, then went back on it. It was effective for about 6 months this time, then the withdrawl-type symptoms started again. I can only assume that I build up a tolerence to Parnate after a while. Interestingly, the side-effects (orthostatic hypotension, anorexia, "tongue scum") also went away when the withdrawl-like sysmptoms started.

Coming off of Parnate was singularly unpleasant (worse than most of the Effexor horror-stories sound), especially the second time. It was made worse by the fact that I had to let the Parnate "wash out" before I could start any new AD, either to lessen the withdrawl or alleviate the depression. The withdrawl symptoms were mostly gone in 2 weeks, and totally gone by the time the new AD's kicked in (Celexa the first time, Wellbutrin the second.)

So, yeah, I relate 100%.
