Remeron (mirtazapine) causing sexual dysfunction?

Posted by pellmell on June 2, 2001, at 14:06:27

Hello again.

I've been on Remeron, 30mg at bedtime, for oh, ten days now, and I've noticed a somewhat disturbing trend in my sex life. My libido is intact, and I reaching orgasm isn't much of a problem, but my erections (yes, I'm a guy) have become frustratingly rubbery. Not so rubbery that I can't take a rubber, but enough that it makes sex a little less yummy. And it only seems to be getting worse. Right now it's about half as bad as when I was on Zoloft (which was a great antidepressant for me but left me with a useless fifth appendage).

Has anyone else experienced this on mirtazapine? I can think of only one other thing that could be rusting my reproductive winch: I've been smoking more, about 7 cigarettes a day, since I ended my failed 3-week experiment with Wellbutrin.

A few days ago I started taking gingkgo biloba, 60mg four times a day. I have a whole bottle of 150mg tablets of Wellbutrin SR hanging around, too, which I could try...but I'm not too keen on that because it made me an anxious, irritable wreck last time around. Maybe the Remeron would counteract this, though?

Thanks for your input...
