Optimal duration of treatment with Effexor XR?

Posted by Racer on June 23, 2001, at 20:16:56

Some time back, I remember coming across a reference to an optimal period for treatment. Something like "Even if the symptoms are all gone, take the drugs for at least two years so it doesn't come back..."

My question: since we all know how pleasant these drugs can be, and at least one of me would like more than anything to be able to stop taking the damn things, what is that duration? Is it really two years? Is that two years since begining the drugs, or two years since the drugs worked, or two years since getting to the dosage at which the drugs worked, or take them forever and ever amen no matter how awful you feel while you're on them?

Bonus points given for any links to relevant articles that can be understood by fairly unsophisticated laymen.

Thanks!
