My pdoc had me try all of these (except taurine which I have tried anyway). thewayup.com is a good website for an overview on these amino acids and Slagle's book (The Way Up From Down?) is good--you can get it at your library. I definately felt the effects of each of these, but they did not do it for me. Tyrosine was too activating for me, but I have a friend who take St Johns Wart and Tyrosine daily with success for years. I suspect her depression is not as bad as mine. The tryptophan you can only get by prescription now and then only from a compounding pharmacy--it sedated be. HTP 5 is the next in line to tryptophan and is available at health food stores. I think it is worth looking into this stuff. I felt I owed it to myself to try it all and I did. For me, it didn't work. Neither did SamE. sigh....
