> I totally agree with Janelle. I usually take my dose of Zyprexa around 5:00pm to 6:00pm, so that it helps me fall asleep at 8:00 or 9:00. It's sedative properties seem to take at least 3 hours to kick in, for me anyway. Its greatest benefit, in terms of sleep, is in the quality of sleep, not so much in initiating sleep. When I wake, I feel like I really slept good. Other sedating meds I've tried, such as Remeron, tricyclics, Serzone, Trazodone, were much better at
initiating sleep, but they provided lousy quali
ty sleep. Even though I slept solid, I felt like the quality of sleep was pretty poor. In my experimentations, nothing has been better than Zyprexa for high quality sleep.

The reason for this timing is that I found that it does NOT knock me out or even begin to make me drowsy for quite some time after I take it.

Funny, I didn't see this post until 10:00pm. I read an earlier post of JohnL's and decided to try 5 mg tonight since I am to call my pdoc anyway tomorrow with a report. I took the Zyprexa at 7:00 and so far, 3 hours later, I feel nothing. I also am not going to take my other sleep meds until I feel it "hit" or 11:00...whichever comes first. I am doing that to see how the Zyprexa feels without Xanax & benedryl. At 11 I will have to take the other pills because otherwise I will NEVER be able to wake up tomorrow.
