Noah - Margot Kidder was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, not schizophrenia. Approximately 1% of the world's population has schizophrenia. It is not a poor person's disease; it affects both rich and poor families equally. One possible reason that you may not notice that rich people with the disease, is that they can afford to hire private doctors and clinics, instead of relying upon public funding to treat their affected kin.
Very, very, very few people with schizophrenia can live a tolerable life without medication. Those that can, either have very mild symptoms or were misdiagnosed.
It is very unlikely that someone diagnosed with schizophrenia can lead a productive life without medication.
