I was on 40mg paxil for a year. I began taking the diet drug ephedrine and then taking the drug sudafed to get more energy and help me lose weight. The reaction of these chemicals produced an adverse reaction. I wasn't able to sleep for many days and started to hallucinate. I think I went into a sort of episode. I went to see my doctor and he saw the state I was in and told me I was schizophrenic. I didn't tell him I was taking the ephedrine and sudafed. Now that I look at it, I should have told him because the schizphrenic symptoms were produced by the interaction of ephedrine and sudafed with paxil. I have done web searches and found that sudafed and ephedrine cause paranoia, confusion, aggressive behaviour, etc. These are symptoms that I had inflicted onto myself. I did not develop these symptoms naturally. Afterall, a schizophrenic episode is supposed to come without the aid of any drugs. How do I explain this to my doctor? The hospital wants me to go and see their psychiatrist to confirm that I have schizophrenia but I am reluctant because I know that the psychiatrist could easily diagnose me schizophrenic by mistake or intentionally because he works for the Schizophrenia Program at the hospital and would love to recuit people so that he can get more money in his pocket and help his peers get more money through me. I am thinking I should talk to my doctor who diagnosed me with schizophrenia in the first place but I am afraid I won't get through to him. What should I do? I had schizophrenic symptoms that were self inflicted, manfactured from my abuse of sudafed and ephedrine while taking paxil. I want to get out of this mess. Is there any hope for me?
