I agree with the idea of people with negative comments about meds noting that it is their experience with that particular med. I know that when I look for information, I make this assumption when reading a post – it is one person’s experience. I also make the assumption when reading a product monograph, that many of the side effects described occur in a very few cases and I am not likely to have the same experience. What I have really found useful about this board is that it’s real people with problems akin to mine who are actually taking the meds. My pdoc is great but she cannot tell me how sedating Remeron might be because she has never taken it. She relies on reports from other patients and then does what I do – and what we all do – discount some of the wild exaggerations and look for the middle ground which is likely closer to the truth. When we experience something we are not prepared for, this is a wonderful place to find out in a hurry if we should be worried, if it is ‘normal’ and will pass soon and add to the knowledge about that med. If only my doc would respond as quickly as the people on this board do.
