Wellbutrin+SSRI - still lose weight???

Posted by Kathleen6674 on September 20, 2001, at 1:00:36

I've been on Wellbutrin for about 3 weeks now (200mg), Celexa 20mg for about 7 weeks.

Previously, I'd taken WB by itself - it didn't *quite* alleviate the depression, and made me too jittery and panicky by its lonesome. (I was on 300mg a day to get substantial AD action).

Exit WB, enter Celexa. My depression begins to lift. My weight begins to climb. My sex drive and any sensation in *important* parts of the anatomy skip town.

Re-enter WB, at a lower dosage, keeping the Celexa. A teeny tiny bit of my sexual function returns - I am about as sexually dysfunctional now as I was on Prozac, which was enough to make me stop taking it. (I can have an orgasm now, but only by myself and only after a long, long time, and then it doesn't feel like it did on no meds. Celexa alone, nothing. At all. Ever. So this is marginally better).

On WB alone, it was the diet I'd always dreamed of finding. Slow and steady weight loss, about a pound or two a week, gradually slowing down to maybe .5 pound after I'd lost a lot.

Now, with the combo, no weight loss still. A little wired, can't sleep at all (I live in NYC, so that's not exactly *abnormal* for these parts).

I'm wondering if people still got the weight loss effects of WB if they combined it w/an SSRI - I'd had weight gain w/Prozac, so I think for me this is a prob w/all the SSRIs. Ditto sex probs.

Should I try to up the WB again and see if, w/Celexa, I don't get as jittery as before?? Not that I'm especially in favor of another panic attack or anything...

I'm tired of trying new drug after new drug; Celexa is the first thing in over a year I've found that actually works on the depression (double depression, tendencies toward hypomania, though, when I was on Prozac).

I'm at too high a weight for me. Although I've been downing the sweets like you wouldn't believe since last Tuesday. Hard not to if you have emergency sirens going off outside your window 24/7.

So will I eventually lose weight or no? Is it the stressed-out sweets bonanza or the Celexa that's keeping me from losing?

Thanks.
