Benzodiazepines and longevity

Posted by Mary-Teresa on October 23, 2001, at 7:44:16

I have been diagnosed with a general panic disorder. Due to a recent horrible experience with zoloft, and residual problems with tinnitus as a result of elevated seratonin, I can't take ssri meds, or any drug which may potentially elevate seratonin levels such as effexor. Has anyone had experience with using benzodiazepines over a long period. My doctor is reluctant because they can be addictive. I feel safer on this class of drug, and any information that can be shared would be most appreciated. I'm certainly going through a very rough time at the moment. Thanks so much.
