Prozac has a very long half life, which means it stays in your body for weeks after you take it,Thus it causes minimal withdrawal symptoms. Effexor on the other hand has a very short half life, a day or so, therefore can cause quite severe withdrawal symptoms. You only need to take prozac for a few days to get relief from your withdrawal symtoms. This is what my doctor told me, but you should check it out with yours !!

Also i am in a slightly different situation because i have decided to take prozac long term.
