> MAOIs are more potent than any of the newer antidepressants- ssris, effexor, remeron etc, which is why in mental hospitals they have been given the name "suicide inhibitors". But they shouldn't be given to anyone w/ severe psychotic depressive episodes unless they are under close watch by a psychiatrist in a mental hospital & on a restricted low tyramine diet. MAOIs are often fatal in overdose & because of this & the so called "cheese (tyramine) effect" are probably among the most dangerous drugs out there.

> Since i've been suffering from severe psychotic depression episodes i was wondering if i needed something stronger in order to regain the good feeling i experienced days ago. I read somewhere MAOI are more effective for severe depression than other antidepressant. Is that true? Are they relevant research data out there showing this statement? Or may be i just need to stick to effexor raise the dose/augmenting?
