It's all true what the doctors said except for the idiot one who told you it's possible to drink lots & not feel it (what was that doctor THINKING?)
The reason being is that everyone's metabolism is slightly different. You won't know until you try it. I take several meds where it's not recommended to take alcohol with. But even though I drink very rarely (maybe once or twice a month), I like to have some at get-togethers. The only way I found out was to try a small bit of wine at home. I only took a few ounces, not knowing what to expect. What I found is nothing is changed for me. I have a low tolerance for alcohol to begin with & still do. I limit myself to two drinks in any event I'm at & no more & make sure I'm not driving. You need to use common sense.
You'll have to judge for yourself, but first at home & in VERY small amounts. Some people just can't have any alcohol. You may be one of those.

> I'm a university student trying to maintain my typical social life. I enjoy a drink here and there especially with pub night every thursday. However, the drug co. recommends effexor XR not to be taken with alcohol. I was told that ads will heighten the effects of alcohol (easier to get drunk, harder hangovers etc, increases depression as it is a depressant itself) I also heard you can drink moderately on ads (2-3 drinks) or you can drink heavily and still not feel any of the effects of alcohol. Each scenario was told to me by a different doctor... and obviously conflict. I also heard the combination of the two can cause brain damage, but the source wasn't very credible. So what's up with the combo?

If anyone can offer any insight and/or experiences you've had with ads and alcohol i'd love to hear it. Afterall the Holliday Season is here... let the wassailing begin!!!
