Just my own reaction:

Remeron made me noy only sedated but emotionally numb. Really didn't have a big effect on my depression but did leave me feeling lifeless. The only real side effect was the sedation.

Elavil (amitriptyline) had some effect on my baseline depression. Had to switch to Nortriptyline due to El's potential for OD. Both of the TCA's left me with dry mouth but not much else. Maybe a little sedation but not enough that I was falling asleep all day long. I still take Nortrip as my main AD and am pretty satisfied with it. It seems like there are still a lot of people who don't react to the SSRI's who are served well by the older TCA's. I wish more pdocs would pay attention to that.
