Jane,
I've been having all sorts of problems with boredom during the recent holidays. I have a distorted belief that if I get bored, I will sink into a very deep depression. My psych [who is an REBT proponent] has been trying to get me to believe that boredom is very tolerable and the reason I get depression when faced with boredom is that I believe it is intolerable. So I would say that boredom itself is neither a sign of depression nor healthly thinking. The important factor is how you "view" boredom i.e. everyone gets bored from time to time but people react differently to it. I have depression and tend to view it as a terrifying sign I will get even worse depression so for me, boredom, or the prospect of boredom, is very troublesome.
Don't know if this helps but it's something that's having a big effect on me at the moment and I wanted to blurb about it!
cheers,
pedr.
