Neurontin induces its own metabolism--I think most people are not taking enough Neurontin to make a difference. The guidelines for Epilepsy mention that 3600 mg/day is the max, but bipolars and unipolars may need up to 6000 mg.

Neurontin is more effective in bipolar depression than it is in mania. The classics Lithium and Depakote are still the gold standards in treating mania.
