> Hi!
> Just had to talk to my pdoc, as I developed cold sores in my mouth and nose. This is very common right before I come down with a cold, but I'm at 200mg of Lamictal, and my husband freaked-reminding me that SJS is a fatal rash. I reminded him that for someone who is already suicidal, that that is not necessarily a bad thing--removes all the guilt from taking my own life, however, he did NOT appreciate my sense of humor.

> Anyway, the point of my story is when I called my pdoc, he did think I was coming down with a cold, as SJS is usually external (kind of like impetigo), but he also mentioned that the 200mg I was on a *fairly low dose*. So just a follow up to our earlier conversation. I've read your other threads and am glad to see that your se reduced at 75 mg! :)
> Warmly, CrinnHi - This is my first post, although I've been following the Lamictal posts with interest, since I started on it in October for BPII. When I went up to 150mg. my mood improved dramatically; I can't even remember when I've felt that good for that long (1 month). After I went up to 200mg. I got a sore on the tip of my tongue. Although I've never had a canker sore or cold sore of any kind, I attributed it to something I ate. It persisted for about 3 weeks, during which time I felt like I had the flu every day (weak, achy, etc.). Since it is the flu season, my pdoc and I attributed it to that, and I went up to 250mg. The next day, the inside of my mouth (especially the entire surface or my tongue and the roof of my mouth) was extremely painful. It felt like I had burned my mouth by eating something way too hot. It continued to be so painful that I couldn't eat. When I refilled my RX, the instructions from the pharmacy said to contact the dr. asap if "painful sores in the mouth" appeared. Since I was on vacation, I just stopped taking the Lamictal for several days, and the soreness in my mouth went away. I tried to go back on it and again, my tongue was so painful I couldn't stand it. I just went off again, and my mouth was fine. When I got home I called my pdoc, and she agreed that it was a good idea to stop, although she was not familiar with this side-effect. The Lamictal was so great for my mood that I have started back on it. I'm going to try to see if my mood will be good on a lesser dose, as has been the experience of others here. I'm really curious to know if anyone else has experienced the extremely painful sores in the mouth from Lamictal.
