Welcome to the club of PMS'ers!
I was told that the 30's is the worse time for PMS, so welcome to our world! For me, it increased to the point that I was suicidal about 3 days a month. Woudl think of doing it, untilk I'd think of looking at the calendar, realizing it was PMS messing me up like that. Then I'd take a hot bath, relax, be good to myself instead of killing myself right there and then. That was serious PMS.
I'm on the pill now for that. I was on Ortho Trycyclen but during the placebo week, I was still affected by my hormones and felt somewhat depressed. My doc suggest I try Allesse 21, but using 4 boxes in a row, then 1 week off. That way, I'll menstruate 4 or 5 times a year only (deliverance!!!!!!), and have much less effects form my cycle. Allesse is monophasic, i.e., the dose of hormones I'll get will be the same each day. In total, we hope it'll make my life easier. I'm takin and AD for dysthymia and anxiety, I fought major depression for along time before that, I don't need my hormones to put suicidal thoughts in my mind on top of it all.
So, I'd say yes, it could very well be PMS for you, especially since you're 31 years old (I'm 34). Do talk to your doctor about it. If that's it, you can be prescribed the pill or low-dose long term antidepressant for it.
