> Last year I posted drug sale statistics just for general interest. I'm now working on a project and came across a list of the top 200 drugs in 2000 which appears in the "Red Book" (has drug information). There are 2 lists: brand and generic. Here are some of the drugs that are discussed on this board. The first number is the ranking by number of prescriptions filled. The second number is the number of fills from january to October of 2000 (in millions). I think its just for US sales. This info is ONLY from the brand name table.

> 8 Prozac 19.5 million
> 9 Zoloft 19.5
> 10 Paxil 19.0
> 25 Ambien 11.3
> 37 Neurontin 8.6
> 38 Celexa 8.6
> 41 Wellbutrin SR 8.2
> 48 Effexor XR 6.9
> 80 Zyprexa 4.3
> 90 Serzone 3.8
> 110 BuSpar Dividose 2.9
> 116 Remeron 2.7
> 128 BuSpar 2.4
> 186 Effexor 1.5

> There are lots of other drugs on the generic chart such as Trazodone with 9.3 million fills. Remember that the above list is only for brand names so it leaves out a lot of drugs such as tricyclics and other older drugs that have gone generic.

> Anyway I don't think that the list is important for purposes of deciding which drug to take since everyone's situation is different. But I just thought that it was interesting to look at. I think that the 2001 list will be available in April of this year.
Here is the top 200 list of 2000
