I recently ran across some research that shows that people who are obese have less dopamine receptors. BMI had a direct inverse relationship with dopamine receptors.
I have a history of eating disorder, and have been on antidepressants for more than 11 years. For the past 4 or 5 years I have been on zoloft. After mentioning this research to my dr. she changed my antidepressant from zoloft to prozac.
It appears to me, from reading past posts that the effect on dopamine from zoloft and prozac are the same. Does anyone know why it would make a difference on dopamine levels? In one week I am also supposed to begin taking Neurontin. I have no clue why this additional drug was prescribed. The dr. said it was to "complete the package."
I am most concerned about my weight (I have to loose a minimum of 100 lbs.) due to other health reasons, and don't want to relapse into an eating disorder.
I want to find the best combination of drugs to maximize my dopamine and seratonin levels, give me enough energy to get through my days, and not gain weight.
