Can the brain stop producing serotonin?

Hello,
As this time around I don't seem to be responding to SSRIs at all when previously I did, I was wondering if maybe my brain is no longer producing it, so that there is no serotonin to stop the reuptake of. Is this a possibility? Has anyone any theories on this?
