switching to Effexor...should i have hope or fear?

I'm on the verge of switching to effexor from celexa. My doc wasn't the most encouraging because of all the side effects but i am on the highest does celexa and i still feel like i want to jump off a cliff. i had done some research and it sounded like it would be worth a try but i feel like there are so many horror stories. i am so sick of being so depressed i feel like i have to do something other than hide from the world. but now i'm scared that i'm treating my body like a guinea pig. are there any success stories about effexor? is it worth a try? help! r.
