Andrew,
I've been taking 12 g inositol for depression and it seems to help. Doesn't do the whole trick for me, but helps smooth the edges. There is a specific form called myo-inositol that is most effective for depression. The best source I've found is by Jarrow Formulations in the powder form. It's also good to take some time off with it, so 3 weeks on and 1 off is usually recommended.Choline is a derivative of lecithin and works by enhancing nerve signal transduction. There are many different kinds of choline, but the ones you're looking for is probably phosphatidylcholine and CDP choline. There's another product by Jarrow that has these and other brain support products called Neuro-Optimizer. The best source I've found (least expensive and free shipping for orders over $40) is www.iherb.com.
Again, I think these products add to the overall efforts and should be considered for general brain health, but they don't have enough big guns powder for a major depressive illness. The other question is if they're crossing the blood brain barrier or not. Not to discourage you, but to keep an investigative head throughout. - BarbaraCat
