Hello
I haven`t posted on this site for a while now, and have a question about Lamotragine.
I have been taking Lamotragine for about 2 years now - I was on 25 mg for about a year, went up to 250 mg a year ago, and my psychiatrist put the dose up to 300 mg 2 months ago.
I have always suffered from headaches, and am pretty used to dealing with them. I guess that I used to get about one per 2 weeks. However, for the past 5 WEEKS I have had an almost constant headache. This is *extremely* severe most of the time, and is really interfering in my life. I`ve tried paracetamol, ibuprofen (brufen), and co-codamol - all with only limited success.
I mentioned this to my psychiatrist last week when I saw him. He looked up ths side-effects of my medications and found that headache and dizziness (which I`m also getting) can be a side-effect of Lamotragine. He suggested `splitting` the dose - i.e. taking half at night and half in the morning (I had been taking all of it at night). This has done nothing to alleviate the headaches. I can only assume that this ongoing headache is connected to the higher dose of Lamotragine, as I`ve never had anything like it before.
I saw my GP this afternoon about this and she suggested I lower the dose to 250 mg again. This is absolutely fine by me - I don`t want to change medications. I have done this starting tonight.
My question is - has anyone else experienced side-effects only at a higher dose, i.e. side-effects that only appear when the dose is raised? This can be either with Lamotragine or any other medication.
CAN this happen? It`s driving me completely mad.
Any information/feedback will be very gratefully received.
Thanks a lot for your time in reading this.
Anna.
