repost: Didrex vs. Tenuate (diethylproprion)

Posted by 3 Beer Effect on June 15, 2002, at 1:16:12

I currently take Dextrostat which is (Dexedrine/dextroamphetamine) 20 mg 2x per day for ADD + social phobia.

Since Dextrostat (like Adderall, Dexedrine, & Ritalin )is a Schedule II medication, I have to go see my psychiatrist once/month since per DEA rules only 30 days can be dispensed at a time & no refills are allowed.

The problem is that when I go away to college this Fall (a 4 hour drive from my psychiatrists' office) I will have to drive back home once per month in order to continue with the Dextrostat ADD therapy. My doctor hasn't indicated that he will give me postdated prescriptions- somehow I doubt he will.

I am looking for a back-up/alternative ADD psychostimulant to fall back on in case for some reason I can't make it back for a once/month psychiatrist appointment. Currently my back up ADD medicine is 4 Primatene asthma tablets (=50 mg synthetic d,l ephedrine hcl) w/ 100-200 mg No-Doz Caffeine.
But Ephedrine is very dysphoric, it sometimes makes you feel 'like your going to have a heart attack' & is also very dangerous since it elevates your blood pressure more than even methamphetamine.

After doing some research on the internet I found out that a prescription can be written for & filled for various diet pills on the internet, legally, provided that the web site, doctor, & pharmacy filling the prescription are located in the United States. If you have a high enough body mass index it is legal in the United States to order these pills (except in I think 3 States), because you do complete an online consultation form which is reviewed by an U.S. Medical Doctor & agree to the certain risks (e.g. hypertension)/terms of the medication & then a licensed U.S. Physician (M.D.) then writes a prescription for you, which is then filled by a licensed pharmacy located within the United States, & then is sent to you via Federal Express.

(Of course ALL Schedule II medications, including the diet pill Preludin/phenmetrazine & all the ADD stimulants are illegal to dispense through the mail in the United States).

I found two anorectics (diet pills) that are closely related to amphetamine/dexedrine/adderall & act in a similar manner (indirectly acting sympathomimetic)- Didrex (benzphetamine) & Tenuate (Diethylproprion).

I am trying to figure out which is more potent with respect to CNS stimulatory/psychostimulant actions. I have heard of Tenuate being used & in some cases abused for its central stimulant effects but I haven't heard much about Didrex/benzphetamine. I would think Didrex would be a better psychostimulant since it more closely resembles amphetamine in structure & it is a schedule III medication while Tenuate/diethylproprion is only a Schedule IV, but I have never tried either medication.
Both Didrex & Tenuate are said to have "euphoric" action in contrast to Ephedrine hcl which has very "dysphoric" action even though it is a potent CNS stimulant with very similar effects to amphetamine.

Any experiences/thoughts on Didrex (benzphetamine), Tenuate (diethylproprion), or any other diet pill that 'feels like', or has effects similar to Dexedrine, Adderall, or Ritalin?

Thanks,
3 Beers.......
