5-HTP causing rash

Posted by mist on June 17, 2002, at 0:46:55

I've taken 5-HTP on and off since December (more on than off although not a lot lately). It's helped at times and not at others. I'm concerned because I get a light rash on my face when I take it. It looks like the butterfly rash of lupus patients but as far as I know I don't have lupus and it only happens when I take the 5-HTP. Does anyone know if this indicates something serious and if I should not take the 5-HTP anymore because of it? I might stop anyway because of the way it looks but it's not necessarily that noticable -- from a distance it could appear to be a sunburn but up close it's obviously a rash.
