I think the best way to describe it
for me is the following:When I first got glasses I definately
needed them. My mom told me to hold off
because once you start wearing them
your eyes will get naturally worse.It is true, once you start wearing glasses
your eyes adapt to them, glasses aren't addictive
in the sence that you don't need to increase
the strenght to get better vision (unless
your eyes deteriorate) but they ajust, and you
don't need to work so hard to see clearly,
in the same way, I think depressed people adjust
to an AD.
Another example is the following:
After getting your first glases perscription
you will often find you need a stronger perscription shortly after. That is because
the exam was done while your eyes were straining
themselves, after they adjust to the new glasses,
that strenght is slightly less than whats needed,In the same way, when you first try an AD, you
usually fully respond because the effect of the med is couppled with a mind that is desparatly trying to fix itself. You take the first dose and your mind has to try less hard, and so on untill you can feel satisfactory after without having to strain yourself.Could I go back?
At this point I don't think I would settle for less than were I am now, If I was to stop taking the med, It might be difficult in that I have seen what normal is.Sometimes I wonder whether there really are
people who see 20/20
