Never had ECT although its been recommended to me repeatedly starting in late 1998. I never took them up on it even though I was very close to doing it until just a month ago. My Pdoc recommended me try an MAOI first, which Im doing now and its going quite well.

I just did rTMS and while it has antidepressant properties, its hardly what youd call a treatment for really severe depression. It just didnt have much power or robust antidepressant properties to it like Ive read ECT has. The closest comparison Ive read is "ECT is a bazooka, rTMS is a BB gun." That is probably about right.

The general consensus with these sort of non drug treatments is if it doesnt cause a grand mal seizure its next to worthless for combatting really severe clinical depression or manic depression. Thats why I wish I had done ECT instead of rTMS had I to do it all over again.
