Mathematical question - re: lithium dose

Posted by Squiggles on July 28, 2002, at 8:29:35

Hi everyone,

I was reading a number of article on safe
range of lithium dose and avoiding toxicity.
Some go as low as 04.0 - 1.2, other from 08. - 1.5
for example. According to age, dehydration state,
fever, etc. the dose is relatively strong or
weak and reflects a number in the blood test
(anyone interested can go to my lithium site
or ask me for sources.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Lithium/

Here is my question:

Assuming you are taking

900 mg lithium per day
and that gives you an average blood level of
0.8mLq - 1.2 approximately, with fluctuations
permitted,

what would the range be in the bloods, if
you reduced the dose by 33%, i.e. cut 300 mg,
per day, per other day, or every 7 days?

Sorry - it's complicated not just by math but
by the blood level necessary for therapeutic
levels, which as i said is anywhere from 0.40 to
1.2.

Thanks

Squiggles
