The coating has NOTHING to do with sustained release properties; the pretty colors distinguish dose. The extended release formulation is completely mixed with the bupropion hcl in the substance of the tablet. Splitting the SR tablet delivers a smaller dose, extended release intact.
My MD is a consultant for Glaxo/Smith/Kline. He assures me it's perfectly ok.
